Hilo Benioff Medical Center is seeking a Director of Nursing position to provide oversight for its Operating Room (Surgery Gen-Major), Sterile Processing and Anesthesia departments.As part of the Nursing Administration leadership team, the Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the general nursing care and treatment services of the acute facility and for the resulting outcomes of those departments. This position is also responsible for planning and/or implementing programs and providing consultative and advisory services in methods of preparing and maintaining standards of nursing care for the facility.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Leads Operating Room, Sterile Processing and Anesthesia units by defining departmental philosophy, aligning operations with organizational mission and values, and coordinating multidisciplinary care in collaboration with medical leadership.
- Drives strategic initiatives with quality, medical, and patient experience leaders to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and staff engagement across the East Hawaii Region.
- Oversees staffing and operations, ensuring efficient resource use through acuity-based planning, staff development, and evidence-based practices that reflect best care standards.
- Cultivates a patient-centered, culturally competent environment, promoting a service-oriented atmosphere through the Go Malama Management Model and frequent rounding with teams and patients.
- Actively participates in organizational leadership, including emergency management, community outreach, hospital projects, and policy development, while serving as a resource across departments.
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (Master’s degree preferred), as demonstrated by the possession of a license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii. Evidence of continuing education should be demonstrated, including coursework in nursing administration.
Experience: Seven (7) or more years of nursing experience with sufficient previous nursing administration experience in a hospital or clinic environment. A minimum of three (3) years of experience must be in a leadership position.
Certification: Professional Certifications highly preferred.
Licensure: Possession of a license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.

* Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements
Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
