Job description:
Directs and coordinates infection control program in the School of Medicine clinics. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
-Monitors APIC, OSHA, and El Paso Department of Public Health Epidemiology websites for updates on employee health and infection control practices. Communicates education to Senior Director and managers as needed.
-Evaluate new hire health information for completeness; Advise on necessary follow-up; Maintain system for notification of vaccination, etc.
-Manage annual Tuberculin skin test requirements for faculty, staff and residents. Place and interpret TST.
-Manage TTUHSC immunization program; Draw blood for titers as required; Provide immunizations as required.
-Make regular observations in clinical departments for hand hygiene compliance. Conducts surveillance rounds for infection prevention behaviors in the clinic.
-Daily tracking of HAIs, reportable conditions, exposures, communicable diseases and LARC compliance.
-Provides infection prevention education and develops infection prevention competencies.
-Compiles infection prevention and occupational health compliance reports. Maintains accurate data for internal reporting and public reporting.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Education:
Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
License/Certification:
Current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas.
Experience:
At least one year of infection control experience and/or training.
Working knowledge of current infection prevention theories, standards, techniques and practices. Previous experience with Joint Commission infection prevention standards. Completes basic infection control course within first 18 months of employment. Previous experience with employee health requirements, immunization guidelines, and animal lab researchers preferred. Experienced in the use of ImmTrac.
