The University of Victoria, School of Nursing
is committed to providing leadership in undergraduate and graduate nursing education throughout British Columbia and Canada and is seeking an additional faculty member to support these programs. At this time, applications are invited from qualified individuals for a full-time Assistant Professor or Senior Instructor faculty position in the Nurse Practitioner (NP) option commencing July 1, 2013 or as negotiated.

The School of Nursing offers both MN and PhD graduate and generic BSN and post-RN BSN undergraduate programs. The Advanced Practice Nursing distance education offers three graduate options leading to the degree of Master of Nursing (MN): Advanced Practice Leadership, Nurse Educator, and Nurse Practitioner (Family). Graduates of the NP option will be eligible to write the examinations leading to licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (Family) in British Columbia. The School is also partnering with the School of Health Information Science to offer a double degree option in both Nursing and Health Informatics.
Candidates for appointment to the nurse practitioner faculty position must be a graduate of a Master’s level Nurse Practitioner program, be experienced in the NP role, and be eligible to obtain registration as a nurse practitioner in British Columbia. For appointment at the Assistant Professor rank, qualified individuals are required to also have a doctorate, preferably in nursing or a related field, or considerable progress toward attainment of a doctorate.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Candidates for this position must be willing to teach NP theory and practice courses as well as across programs at the graduate and undergraduate level. They must possess demonstrated ability to teach in the practice and classroom settings, and a willingness to teach through distributed learning. Experience supervising graduate students is an asset. They must be able to teach within the philosophy of the curriculum, be committed to strengthening his/her teaching, and have the ability to work collaboratively. Candidates will share the School’s commitment and sensitivity to respect for diversity among colleagues, staff, students, and members of the community. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will also include membership on School committees, participating in governance and decision making within the School, and travel to practice placements throughout BC. Opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching and research are available with other professional schools in the Faculty of Human and Social Development and the wider University. Candidates must currently have active registration with College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia as a Nurse Practitioner, eligible for registration and commitment to achieving Nurse Practitioner registration if not currently registered.

Deadline for applications is February 28, 2013. The search committee will begin reviewing applications March 1, 2013 and will continue review of applications until the position is filled.
